Ismahan Abdullahi

 

Ismahan is the Director of Community Partnerships and Civic Engagement at the Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans - PANA. Ismahan champions the the civic, social, and economic inclusion of refugees in San Diego.

She designs, executes, and supervises PANA’s civic engagement campaigns. In the last year, she developed over 32 leaders from refugee backgrounds and trained them in civic engagement strategies including phone banking, canvassing, and understanding voter data.

In 1992, Ismahan and her family escaped war-torn Somalia to have a life filled with opportunities in America.

Nicole Capretz

 

Named a New York Times Top 10 Californian of 2016, Nicole Capretz is an environmental attorney with 20 years of experience as an energy and climate policy advisor for local governments and the nonprofit sector. Nicole was the primary author of the City of San Diego’s groundbreaking, legally binding 100% clean energy Climate Action Plan adopted in late 2015. She now serves on San Diego’s Climate Action Plan Implementation Working Group, as well as the City of Solana Beach’s Climate Action Commission.

Nicole advocates for local and state renewable energy legislation, participates in state administrative proceedings, serves as an expert witness in state policy hearings and is a regular speaker at energy and climate conferences and hearings.

As Executive Director of Climate Action Campaign, Nicole drives the organization’s growth and strategy to achieve their simple mission, to stop climate change. She leads a team relentless advocates who live and breathe the fight for 100% clean energy, the freedom of energy choice, social equity, affordable and reliable public transportation, an urban tree canopy and zero waste. It’s all connected.
