ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONS THAT SUPPORT FLIP THE SCRIPT:
Climate Action Campaign
Climate Action Campaign has a simple mission: to stop climate change. The only way to achieve this goal is to fight change from the ground up as part of one movement for social, economic, racial and environmental justice. We need experienced advocates and trained community members at the local, state, and national levels promoting relevant, achievable, and legally binding climate policies.
Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans
Led by the communities it serves, The Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans (PANA) amplifies refugee voices in San Diego County to increase their visibility and impact. PANA is building a more powerful community of former refugee and newcomer families better equipped to take on rising authoritarianism and inequity, including heightened anti-refugee sentiments and renewed attacks against refugee communities, immigrants, Muslims, blacks, Latinos and women.
WHY THIS PODCAST?
Following the devastating and racially charged election results at the federal level, PANA’s Ramla Sahid knew she needed reinvigorate her community and bolster San Diego residents for the bigger fight to come, as well as broaden and strengthen the partnerships with non-traditional allies.
That’s when Nicole Capretz, Executive Director of Climate Action Campaign, approached Ramla and Ismahan Abdullahi at PANA with an idea to grow a new partnership focused on highlighting the women — particularly women of color — as fearless leaders taking on the traditional power brokers and transforming outdated institutions and systems in San Diego and beyond. The podcast is meant to tell the personal stories of the women breaking barriers and helping to inspire other women to step into their power to affect change.
